SEGA recently announced that Yakuza Kiwami 3 & Dark Ties will be making its way to Switch 2, and it will launch on Feb. 12th, 2026. This package contains the original Yakuza 3, as well as the brand-new Dark Ties expansion. This addition lets you experience the brand-new tale of Yoshitaka Mine from Yakuza 3 in an included separate game.

Having once led a successful startup company, Mine plunged himself into the dark world of the yakuza by choice after losing everything. Left with an empty heart, the pursuit to find true bonds drives him forward once again in a dramatic journey colored by exhilarating boxing-based combat, and a variety of engaging side experiences. Two men will walk different paths that converge to shake the very foundations of fate.

In an interview with Famitsu, producer/director Ryosuke Horii revealed that the Dark Ties content originally started out as a video, rather than a playable expansion. As the team thought more about what they wanted to do and the opportunity at hand, they decided to expand things into a playable addition.

Initially, there was an idea to make it something that could be viewed as a video. But we wanted to make Mine move, and we thought that if we were to tell his story, it would be best to make him playable. We thought that would increase player satisfaction, and it was a subject that we wanted to try as well. We also thought, “If we miss this opportunity, we won’t have another chance,” so we decided to go in that direction.
