PlayStation & Xbox Quietly Remove Transformers Game From Digital Stores

One of the most recent Transformers video games has been delisted from digital storefronts, including the PlayStation Store and Xbox's Microsoft Store. Games becoming unavailable without notice isn't necessarily uncommon—it recently happened with some Disney games replaced with remasters—and they most often return in some form after whatever issue is resolved. That may not be the case with Transformers, unfortunately.

Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition was delisted seemingly without any announcement, and is now gone from all digital storefronts. The 2023 third-person adventure game was developed by Tessera Studios and published by Outright Games, but neither company appears to have addressed its disappearance. Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition is just the latest of many Outright titles to have been delisted, according to PlayStation Lifestyle.

Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition Delisted From Digital Storefronts

Based on the animated series Transformers: EarthSpark, Expedition focuses on the feud between Bumblebee and Mandroid, with players controlling the Autobot through a variety of levels that involve driving, melee combat, platforming, and third-person shooting. At the time of writing, Expedition's various digital listings are either gone or now bear non-specific notices, like the Steam page simply listing the game as "no longer available."

Though no reason from Outright Games for the removal of Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition, it is possibly related to it being a licensed game. A 2023 release having its license end after just three years would be odd, but there is no other obvious explanation. For now, it would appear the only way to play Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition is via a physical copy.

A Major Blow to Transformers Video Games

Expedition's Mixed reception on Steam aside, it's unfortunate to see a relatively new Transformers game get mysteriously pulled. Video games from the iconic franchise are relatively few and far between, with the latest being Transformers: Galactic Trials, a racing combat title from 2024. Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition may not have a sterling reputation, but it was still the newest adventure game in the franchise.

If it is a licensing issue, it may be incredibly difficult for Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition to return to digital storefronts. Anyone who has already purchased it should be able to download and play the game, and those with a physical copy will, of course, still have access to it as well. Because Outright Games hasn't made a statement on the matter, it's unclear whether Expedition will make a return.

Such happenings are a major reason for the backlash surrounding PlayStation's abandonment of discs. Without advance notice, anyone who had an eye on Transformers: EarthSpark - Expedition is out of luck, unless they can find a physical copy, which will only become increasingly rare. Xbox has yet to weigh in on whether physical media will be included in the Project Helix generation.
