The changes will start on November 16, but there's a way to opt out.

Discord will make public servers and messages in them searchable via Google.

In a new blog post, the company announced that all Discoverable Servers will receive a Server Web Page starting on November 16. A Server Web Page will describe the server and may also display summaries of discussions happening in public channels, which are visible to everyone in the server. In addition, some messages from these channels may appear on Server Web Pages and in web search starting mid-December 2026. Only message text will be shown; usernames and avatars won't be displayed on Server Web Pages. Discord notes that the changes will be implemented gradually, and showing the first messages on the web will take several weeks.

Public channels will be included by default, but server admins can also choose not to make their server discoverable. To opt out, server admins can use the controls in Server Settings > Web Presence. Admins can choose which channels take part, or opt all channels out. They can do this now, before the changes go live on November 16.

Users can also hide their messages from Google Search by turning off visibility in User Settings > Data and Privacy, before messages start appearing in mid-December or anytime after. This one setting covers Channel Messages in every Discoverable Server.

Channel Summaries are generated from broader channel topics, so they will still appear on Server Web Pages unless admins turn them off. The change applies only to public channels; private servers, DMs, and group DMs are always private and not affected.

Recently, Discord rolled out a new age verification system that automatically figures out users' ages, without the need to scan their ID or take a selfie. It had bugs and drew backlash from the community, including gruesome art featuring Wumpus, Discord's purple cartoon mascot (content warning).
