Discord has announced a series of upcoming changes that will make public Discord servers, or “Discoverable Servers,” and their public chat and content searchable in web results. These changes will roll out in waves over November and December, allowing server managers to opt into privacy from search if they so desire.

Discord announced web search for Discoverable Servers and its rollout in a post on the company’s social media, as well as exactly what that rollout will entail:

If you've ever searched for a specific speedrun trick, someone has likely already answered it in a channel somewhere, in one of 63,000 Discoverable Servers. We’re updating Discoverable Servers to make those answers easier to find. https://t.co/kYowgybmZj

Starting on November 16, Discord is also adding settings to make your server private from web searches and results. In order to opt out, server admins must navigate to Server Settings, and then Web Presence to choose to opt certain channels or your whole server out of public searches. Public servers will be Discoverable Servers and searchable by default.

As the company aims to roll out this Discoverable Server change over the next two months, stay tuned to the Discord topic for more news and updates.
